What is 6061 aluminium alloy ?
6061 is a precipitation hardening aluminium alloy, containing magnesium and silicon as its major alloying elements. Originally called "Alloy 61S," it was developed in 1935.[1] It has good mechanical properties and exhibits good weldability. It is one of the most common alloys of aluminium for general purpose use.
It is commonly available in pre-tempered grades such as 6061-O (annealed) and tempered grades such as 6061-T6 (solutionized and artificially aged) and 6061-T651 (solutionized, stress-relieved stretched and artificially aged)

General 6061 characteristics and uses: Excellent joining characteristics, good acceptance of applied coatings. Combines relatively high strength, good workability, and high resistance to corrosion; widely available. The T8 and T9 tempers offer better chipping characteristics over the T6 temper.
Uses: Aircraft fittings, camera lens mounts, couplings, marines fittings and hardware, electrical fittings and connectors, decorative or misc. hardware, hinge pins, magneto parts, brake pistons, hydraulic pistons, appliance fittings, valves and valve parts.

Silicon minimum 0.4%, maximum 0.8% by weight
Iron no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Copper minimum 0.15%, maximum 0.40%
Manganese no minimum, maximum 0.15%
Magnesium minimum 0.8%, maximum 1.2%
Chromium minimum 0.04%, maximum 0.35%
Zinc no minimum, maximum 0.25%
Titanium no minimum, maximum 0.15%
Other elements no more than 0.05% each, 0.15% total
Remainder Aluminium (95.85%–98.56%)

What is 6063 aluminium alloy ?
AA 6063 is an aluminium alloy, with magnesium and silicon as the alloying elements. The standard controlling its composition is maintained by The Aluminum Association. It has generally good mechanical properties and is heat treatable and weldable. It is similar to the British aluminium alloy HE9.
6063 is mostly used in extruded shapes for architecture, particularly window frames, door frames, roofs, and sign frames. It is typically produced with very smooth surfaces fit for anodizing.

Silicon minimum 0.2%, maximum 0.6% by weight
Iron no minimum, maximum 0.35%
Copper no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Manganese no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Magnesium minimum 0.45%, maximum 0.9%
Chromium no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Zinc no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Titanium no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Other elements no more than 0.05% each, 0.15% total

6063-T4
T4 temper 6063 has an ultimate tensile strength of at least 19,000 psi (131 MPa) in thicknesses up to 0.5-inch (13 mm), and 18,000 psi (124 MPa) from 0.5 to 1.0-inch (25 mm) thick, and yield strength of at least 10,000 psi (69 MPa) up to 0.5-inch (13 mm) and 9,000 psi (62 MPa) from 0.5 to 1.0-inch (25 mm). It has elongation of 14%.
6063-T5
T5 temper 6063 has an ultimate tensile strength of at least 20,000 psi (152 MPa) in thicknesses up to 0.5-inch (13 mm), and 19,000 psi (145 MPa) from 0.5 to 1.0-inch (25 mm) thick, and yield strength of at least 14,000 psi (110 MPa) up to 0.5-inch (13 mm) and 13,000 psi (103 MPa) (from 0.5 to 1.0-inch (25 mm). It has elongation of 8%.
